Relationship between Identity Styles and self- concept with Empathy in Students

The main purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between identity styles and self- concept with empathy among Mahabad Payame Noor University students. This research was a descriptive and correlation study. The target population of this study was the student of Mahabad Payame Noor University in the academic year 2013-2014. Therefore, using a multistage, 200 students (100 male and 100 female) were select fromrandom cluster sampling of study. For data collecting Identity Styles Inventory, Rogers Self Concept Questionnaire and The empathy Interpersonal Reactivity Index were used. Data were analyzed by using of Pearson correlation coefficient, multiple regressions (stepwise). The results indicated that informative and normative identity styles had positive relations؛ and avoidant identity style has negative relation with empathy. Also empathy had positive relations with positive self- concept and negative relations with negative self- concept. Also based on results the identity styles and self -concept predict variables empathy. With increased Informational and normative identity style and positive self- concept amounts of empathy and contrast with the styles of identity confusion / avoidance and negative self- concept decreased of empathy.
