Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate the instrument validity for measuring the utility rate of 21st century skill improvement strategies among high school students in the city of Karaj. This research was a descriptive-survey study. The statistical population consisted of 1876 female high school teachers. They were teaching in 86 high schools in the city of Karaj in 2012-2013. Multistage cluster sampling method was used to select the participants. The instrument of this study was the Ravitz questionnaire, which includes a number of items about the necessary skills for students in the 21st century. This questionnaire is based on a Likert scale. The content validity and face validity was confirmed by a number of professors of educational sciences and psychology. In order to determine the reliability, the Cronbach α method was used. Pearson correlation coefficient, factor analysis by using Varimax rotation, Bartlett’s test, and sampling adequacy (Kaiser-Meyers Olkin or KMO) were employed to analyze the data. The results of factor analysis by Varimax rotation revealed eight factors: critical thinking skills, cooperation skills,
interpersonal communication skills, creativity and innovation skills, self-management skills, global relations skills, local relations skills, and information and intercommunication skills. All in all, they explained %57.25 of the whole test variance. The Cronbach α coefficient of the whole test was 0.95. Critical thinking skills (0.78), cooperation skills (0.85), interpersonal communication skills (0.75), creativity and innovation skills (0.85), self-management skills (0.85), global relations skills (0.88), local relations skills (0.85), and information and intercommunication skills (0.92) were the obtained subscales in this study. Therefore, it was concluded that this questionnaire has a high degree of validity and reliability in educational studies.
