Abstract
The present study was done to investigate the effectiveness of positive thinking and positive psychotherapy, in the group form, on college students’ self-esteem. The statistical population of this study was all undergraduate students at Ghorveh Payame Noor University in the academic year of 2016-2017. In this study 30 students were selected as the sample size by available random sampling. Statistical population of the experimental group includes 15 students who participated in reality therapy voluntarily. The statistical sample of control group was also 15 students that did not take part in reality therapy (they were also chosen by available random sampling). The study method was semi- experimental with two groups of experimental and control. The experimental group underwent 6 sessions of positive psychotherapy for 90 minutes but the control group received no treatment. To collect data Cooper Smith self-esteem questionnaire with 58 questions was used. Covariance analysis was used to analyze statistical data. The finding shows that group positive thinking is significantly effective in improving college students’ self-esteem.
