Investigating the relationship between personality characteristics and thinking styles with family-work facilitation and conflict in high school teachers

Abstract
The current research was aimed to examine the relationship between personality characteristics and thinking styles with family-work facilitation and conflict in high school teachers. The research methodology was descriptive and of a correlative type. The statistical population was comprised of all high school teachers in the city of Kamyaran, of whom 178 people were selected as the research statistical sample through relative classified random sampling method. To measure the intended variables, NEO personality inventory, Thinking style inventory, and Work-family facilitation and conflict inventory were applied. Research findings revealed that there was a relationship between personality characteristics of conscientiousness with legislative, conscientiousness with executive, conscientiousness with judgmental thinking styles and nervousness with legislative, extraversion with judgmental, compatibility with executive and openness with judgmental, where they are significant at the 0.01 level. On the other hand, there was no significant relationship between personality characteristics of angriness, with executive thinking style, nervousness with judgmental, extroversion with legislative, extroversion with executive, compatibility with legislative, compatibility with judgmental, openness with legislative and openness with executive thinking style. Also, there were multiple relationships between personality characteristic of angriness, compatibility and openness with work-family conflict; nervousness and conscientiousness with work-family conflicts; conscientiousness with work-family facilitation; conscientiousness and nervousness with work-family facilitation' nervousness and conscientiousness with conflicts and nervousness with facilitation. Only these personality variables enjoy predictability of conflicts and work-family conflicts and vice versa. Also, there was multiple relationship between executive thinking style and work-family conflict; executive with work-family facilitation; executive with conflict and executive with facilitation, where only this variable of thinking style enjoys predictability of work-family
