Abstract
The goal of the work is to study the effectiveness of metacognitive strategies on self-esteem and social skills and accountability of first grade high school students. This study was conducted through experimental method and in form of pretest and posttest with the control group. The statistical population included all first grade high school students of the city of Rabat Karim and the sample size involved two classrooms and it was amounted to 44 people in total that were selected through multi stage cluster sampling method. After the sampling and appointment of groups and conducting of pretest for both groups, the experimental group was placed under an intervention of education involving metacognitive strategies for 40 days. The control group received their own normal educational programs in this period of time. The tools for measurement of the variables under study were Cooper Smith's Self-Esteem Questionnaire and the List of Social Skills Measurement as well as Ne'mati's Accountability Questionnaire. Results demonstrated that the effects of the intervention (training metacognitive strategies) were statistically meaningful on self-esteem and social skills and accountability. As a result, one can state that the intervention has engendered difference in the variables of self-esteem, social skills and accountability between the two experimental and control groups where the difference has been significant. In accordance with the results of the covariance analysis, a significant difference was observed between the experimental and control groups in terms of self-esteem and social skills and accountability of the students. Therefore, metacognitive strategies could be applied as a means for increasing the level of variables under study among students.
